Sol Bamba makes it clear he wants to stay at Leeds next season

Elland Road East Stand

One of Leeds United's standout stars in this campaign has been speaking about the future.

Leeds United loanee Sol Bamba has been speaking to BBC Radio Leeds about the prospect of remaining at Elland Road beyond his current loan stint.

The Ivorian centre-back has been brilliant since arriving from Italian side Palermo in January, making 19 appearances and proving to be vital to the cause.

With his deal now coming to an end, there remains some mystery as to whether Leeds will secure him on a permanent contract. But that is clearly something the player himself is keen on as proved by his latest comments.

Speaking after the 0-0 draw with Rotherham United on Saturday, Bamba said, “I want to stay. I’m not going to lie and I’m not saying this just to make people happy, I just want to stay because I’ve had a great time here.

“The fans, the manager, everyone involved with the club have been fantastic so I really want to stay and hopefully that will be the case.”

Discussing the fact that he still has two years left on his Palermo contract and hopes to sit down with Leeds owner Massimo Cellino in due course, Bamba added, “Nothing’s done yet. But hopefully in the next couple of weeks it’ll be done.”

That is great news for the Leeds fans who have taken Bamba to their hearts following a string of fine defensive performances.

In short, the 30-year-old is the defender Leeds have been waiting quite some time for, and hopefully he will remain for the long haul.
