The goalkeeper was in fantastic form at Vicarage Road yesterday.
The Hornets drew 1-1 with Wednesday after a strike from Atde Nuhiu late on, which left them short of Bournemouth in the race for the title.
They would have been crowned champions if it was not for Wednesday's keeper. That has been said many times this season, usually because of Keiren Westwood's heroics. Yesterday it was the turn of Chris Kirkland.
The goalkeeper was handed a start for the game, in what was only his eighth game of the season.
The former Liverpool player was fantastic throughout the game making save after save to deny the Watford attack from adding to their impressive tallies this campaign.
His performance, on what was his 34th birthday, may have been his last game for the club.
He is out of contract in the summer and as yet no deal has been agreed regarding his long-term future. Westwood was named the Championship goalkeeper of the season recently so he is not going to become the first-choice stopper at Hillsborough.
But he would be a great second-choice, as several Wednesday fans were clearly in favour of on Twitter yesterday...
Aside from how good today was, Kirkland was my MOM, if he does leave at end of the season then it's a good send off for him. #SWFC— Bradley Smithson (@Brad_Swfc1) May 2, 2015
Kirkland played very well today in what is likely to be his last game. If that's the case then good luck for the future! #swfc— Andy Darby (@AndyDarby90) May 2, 2015
