The Welsh international traded Spurs for the Spanish capital in 2013, enjoying a dream debut season at Real Madrid by scoring winning goals in both the Copa del Rey and the Champions League final.
This season, in contrast, hasn’t been quite as smooth for Bale and some of his performances have been publically criticised by both the Spanish press and a number of his own supporters.
As per the Daily Mail report, Premier League trio Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are pondering a summer move for the superstar but they could all be trumped by a surprising suitor.
“Bayern Munich are set to add a fourth dimension to the race for Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale this summer. The German club, so powerful again in the Bundesliga this season, are starting to look more at the commercial benefits that also accompany a player of Bale’s mercurial talent,” the Mail claims.
The Bavarian outfit romped to the Bundesliga title again this season and are still in with a great shout of completing a Champions League double.
Financially, the Germans are well-backed and a big-money move for the 25-year-old is unlikely to cause them any problems regarding UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations.
However, despite Bayern being a recognised worldwide powerhouse, the quality of the Bundesliga and the lack of challenges could prove off-putting to a player still accustoming to the Spanish lifestyle.
Bale still has a big part to play in Madrid, but if a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu was on the cards – surely only a return to the Premier League represents a viable alternative.
