The Aston Villa midfielder is claimed to stormed out of the ground ahead of last month's home clash with Queens Park Rangers after failing to even make the bench.
Carles Gil’s recent lack of action has continued to baffle Aston Villa fans and the Sunday People now claim that the Spaniard is trapped in Tim Sherwood’s doghouse due to his rumoured walkout ahead of last month’s 3-3 home draw with Queens Park Rangers.
Gil, 22, had lost his starting place under the new boss prior to the clash with Villa’s relegation rivals, but the paper allege that he threw a strop after hearing he was not even named to the bench and was seen by fans driving out of the club car park.
The same rumour circulated on Twitter on the night, but some evidence also materialised at the same time which seemed to refute claims that the creative midfielder had stormed out of Villa Park in a huff.
Twitter user @hathers1987 posted the following picture from the ground, just seven minute before kick-off and almost an hour after the line-ups where announced, which appears to show Gil pitchside and suggests that no such incident ever occurred.
Of course, there are possible explanations, such as that the photo was taken earlier, Gil waited until the last second before storming off, or even that he left and later returned, but all seem somewhat farfetched given there was little proof to support the strop claims in the first place.
Instead, what started out as a mere Twitter rumour could well be just that.
Having made just a one-minute cameo over the past 11 games, Gil’s Villa future could well be in the balance regardless, as the Telegraph have reported that showdown talks are set for the end of the season, but whether his reported AWOL jaunt ever occurred remains debateable.
