Derby finished above their great rivals Forest but, after leading the division for large portions of the campaign, this was a big blow for the Midlands side - and offered plenty of material for Nottingham Forest fans to tuck into on social media.
Most of their mockery was aimed at one man, though, in Tom Ince. Indeed, the Hull City star was on loan at the City Ground earlier this season but later joined Derby on a temporary basis, claiming that they are the best side in the Championship.
That claim now seems a tad far-fetched and Nottingham Forest supporters couldn't help but revel in the fact 'man of the match' specialist Ince will leave Derby with the Rams in a far worse position than when he joined - regardless of whether he has actually performed at the iPro Stadium or not!
Derby County fans themselves were understandably frustrated after their capitulation meant they couldn't even make the play-offs. For the Forest faithful, though, Derby's frustration was comedy gold.
Here's what Nottingham Forest supporters said about Ince on Twitter...

I am glad Tom Ince turned down England to concentrate on getting Derby promoted.....he did a good job!!— James Banks (@banksie83) May 2, 2015
I bet tom Ince is so glad he gave up his England career to focus on getting Derby into the play-offs. At least he's had some MOTM— Sarah McLaughlin (@sjstapsar) May 2, 2015
