Manchester United round-up: Barca reportedly want Ander Herrera; van Gaal comments on defeat

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

According to a report from the Sunday People, Spanish side Barcelona are interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera next January.

The former Athletic Bilbao midfielder has now made himself a regular starter at Old Trafford, and there are early signs that he could be the creative, goal-scoring force United have been lacking in that area since the retirement of club legend Paul Scholes.

The latest report claims Barcelona’s sporting director Ariedo Braida is desperate to sign the 25-year-old, but so soon into his United career, surely he is going nowhere.

In other news, United manager Louis van Gaal has been speaking after his side’s shock 1-0 defeat at home to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

United lost 1-0, and in quotes published by ESPN, the Dutchman said, “They parked the bus and then it’s always difficult to attack because you have a lot of bodies in front of you.

“But we have to improve. We have to improve in finishing.”

United have some of the most famous and prolific front-men in European football at their disposal, but quite simply they are not performing at their best right now, with Robin van Persie particularly disappointing on Saturday.
