Liverpool midfielder Emre Can may not have played much in his natural position since arriving at Anfield, but that does not mean he has not had an impressive campaign. In fact, the young German’s versatility means his contribution should not be understated.
After playing a run of matches as one of three centre-backs, Can is currently being used as a right-back, and against QPR he impressed in that very position.
Can is used to it, having played at the back during his formative days at Bayer Munich prior to his switch to Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen. But few would have thought a player signed as a midfielder would have featured so regularly, and so effectively, in the heart of Liverpool’s back-line.
Brendan Rodgers’ side won 2-1 on Saturday, with Philippe Coutinho and Steven Gerrard scoring for the hosts and Leroy Fer briefly equalising for the visitors. But it was Can who really stood out, and not for the first time this season.
After the match we took to Twitter to see what Liverpool fans thought of Can’s latest performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
Great strength shown by Emre Can Composed in tight and tense situations Will come in handy when he moves up to midfield next season— Coutinho (@LFC_Hafo) May 2, 2015
