All the attention was on Chelsea as they secured the Premier League title on Sunday afternoon. They did it courtesy of a 1-0 win against Crystal Palace and a one-goal win was just what they needed: minimum hassle to confirm a league title they have been waiting for for five years.
Indeed, the 23-year-old has had his critics since joining Crystal Palace but impressed against the Blues.
Mutch produced a good display during his 61 on-field minutes - but it was the midfielder's work rate that really made him stand out.
|Team||Tackles Won||Minutes Played|
|Jordon Mutch||C. Palace||4||61|
|David Silva||Man City||4||90|
Yes, as Opta stats show, Crystal Palace supporters were delighted with the former QPR man's efforts against Chelsea for good reason, as he won as many tackles as any other player in the Premier League on Sunday - having played far less minutes.
QPR supporters appeared divided on the subject of the sale of Mutch in January but largely seemed to support the idea as it simply hadn't worked out for him at Loftus Road.
Against the Blues, however, Mutch showed he may well work out as a Crystal Palace player.
The fight he displayed against the newly crowned Premier League champions - even in the face of defeat - was the kind of spirit fans have seen from the Eagles on a regular basis over the past couple of seasons (some Neil Warnock-led performances aside...).
Here, then, is what Crystal Palace fans made of the ex-QPR midfielder's display against Chelsea on Twitter!
Mutch looked like the player I expected of him today. Was a class act. The month or so out has done his fitness the world of good. #cpfc— Ryan Wallis (@RyWalCP) May 3, 2015
Really impresses with Mutch today. Looks like he can defend a bit too. #cpfc— Jay Knowles (@JayKnowles1) May 3, 2015
Even Jordan Mutch got stuck in today. The day didn't faze him. Odd selection to start from Pards. But what do I know?! #cpfc— Clinton Davey (@ClintonDavey) May 3, 2015
Mutch was solid too. Certainly shut up a few of his critics today, myself included. #cpfc— Stand In The Sun (@standinthesun) May 3, 2015
Mutch looked a different player today. Really up for it and seems to have instantly inherited that palace fighting team spirit #cpfc— Crystal Palace (@crystalpalace20) May 3, 2015
Good performance today. Chelsea hardly threatened.Wilf MOTM and Mutch had his best game in a Palace shirt. #cpfc— Derek Bamford (@dbamfy19) May 3, 2015
After that display, I feel Mutch better about Pardew's first transfer window. #CPFC— Matt Webb (@doctordubbs) May 3, 2015
