Cristiano Ronaldo overtakes Lionel Messi in all-time stat

Cristiano Ronaldo

The Real Madrid man has now scored 25 La Liga hat-tricks, compared to the Argentine’s 24.

Cristiano Ronaldo kept Real Madrid’s hopes of winning the La Liga title alive yesterday with a hat-trick against Sevilla.

The treble meant that Carlo Ancelotti’s men claimed a 3-2 victory away to Sevilla and kept the pressure on league leaders Barcelona.

Ronaldo’s personal battle with Lionel Messi continues, with the Argentine netting twice in the Camp Nou side’s 8-0 thumping of Cordoba.

However, despite the Barcelona man setting records with alarming regularity, the Portuguese attacker’s treble means he has overtaken Messi in the all-time La Liga hat-trick stats.

The pair were both locked on 24 trebles before yesterday’s action, with Ronaldo taking the advantage and increasing his tally to an incredible 25.

Messi had the chance to score a hat-trick of his own, but opted to let Neymar take a penalty for the Blaugrana instead of netting it himself.

The pair are embroiled in a battle to top the La Liga goalscoring charts this season also, with Ronaldo’s haul being taken to 42 yesterday and Messi sitting on the 40 mark.
