Could Luke Amos's presence at Tottenham see Grant Ward move on?

Taking a closer look at two young defensive midfielders currently on the books of Tottenham Hotspur.

According to a recent report from Talk Sport, Italian side Udinese are keen on signing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Grant Ward this summer.

At first glance the rumour seemed a little strange, given Ward’s progress in recent times and the fact that he is only 20, but could the emergence of another Tottenham player who occupies the same position ultimately see Ward depart?

At just 18 Luke Amos has a long way to go before he has the chance to become a first-team regular at White Hart Lane. But the holding midfielder is highly regarded at the club and played a key role in Tottenham’s impressive FA Youth Cup campaign that ended at the semi-final stage.

With Nabil Bentaleb already in place, and the likelihood of Tottenham strengthening in defensive midfield this summer by bringing in a quality, experienced addition, Ward may well be deemed surplus to requirements.

After a fine stint on loan at Coventry City the 20-year-old could now be seeking regular first-team football; something that is unlikely to happen in the short term at Spurs.

Two years younger, Amos’s presence could also mean Mauricio Pochettino could wave goodbye to Ward knowing he has another very promising defensive midfielder waiting in the wings and developing at an impressive rate.
