Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Erik Lamela once again produced a superb display despite his side crashing to a narrow 1-0 loss at home to Manchester City.
The Argentine ace arrived at White Hart Lane with a glowing reputation and all the potential in the world to become a Spurs favourite similar to now Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale.
Yet, a struggling debut campaign ensued and amid talks of a swift exit, current boss Mauricio Pochettino seemingly got him back on track as he begins to show what he is all about.
Despite suffering a 1-0 defeat due to City striker Sergio Aguero’s first-half finish, Lamela was the hosts’ source of inspiration in the final third as he seeked to restore parity with real purpose and drive.

As per the table provided by Opta Stats, the former Roma youngster was a constant thorn in the Citizens’ side and can count himself extremely unlucky to finish on the losing team.
He created a total of six chances for his teammates via key passes, more than any other player on the pitch, while also demonstrating his dribbling ability with three successful take-ons.
The hosts looked to utilise Lamela’s creativity as much as possible in the final third, the 23-year-old taking a total of 69 touches and accurately distributing 31 passes.
One area of his game which has improved under his compatriot Pochettino is his willingness to help out defensively, which was illustrated again today with two tackles and an impressive five ball recoveries.
However, despite his best efforts, the Lilywhites couldn’t grab themselves an equaliser and for Lamela it was another decent display without any real reward.
Lamela has featured in 30 Premier League matches for the North Londoners this season, but his return of just two goals is disappointing for a player with such obvious attacking qualities in the final third.
