Report: Tottenham interested in Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a surprise move for a much-needed winger.

According to a report from ESPN, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah this summer.

The Egyptian international is currently on loan at Italian side Fiorentina, where he has scored nine goals in 17 matches to date.

The 22-year-old somewhat surprisingly left Chelsea on loan last summer, but having featured 19 times for the Blues since his move from FC Basel in January 2014, it remains to be seen if there is a long-term future for him under Jose Mourinho.

The report cites unnamed sources that claim Tottenham are considering a bid for a player who would no doubt improve the club’s options on the wing.

With Aaron Lennon currently on loan at Everton and Andros Townsend too often flattering to deceive, it would be no surprise if Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino strengthened in that area as soon as possible.

In Salah, they would be able to sign a young player who has talent in abundance and experience – albeit brief – of the Premier League.

The question is: Would Chelsea sell to a top-flight rival…if at all?

To date, Salah has scored an impressive 40 senior club goals. Not bad for a player who is only 22 and who would be able to remain in London were the move to happen.
