Report: Newcastle United have made 'substantial offer' for Tottenham target Florian Thauvin

The Frenchman has reportedly been the subject of a move from Newcastle United.

Tottenham Hotspur are said to be upping their interest in Marseille attacker Florian Thauvin, with a meeting now in place to discuss the topic of bringing him to White Hart Lane.

It is reported by Le Parisien, as relayed by beIN Sports, that a meeting between Marseille president Vincent Labrune and officials from Tottenham Hotspur will take place on Tuesday.

It is reported by Le10 Sport that Thauvin is likely to set Tottenham back a fee in the region of €12-14 million for his services this summer.

Now it is reported that Spurs will have a challenge from another Premier League side.

Newcastle United are said to be keen on the player. Le10 Sport in France is reporting that Newcastle United have made a 'substantial offer' for the French talent.

The Frenchman has been compared to Zinedine Zidane and Franck Ribery in his time but as yet has failed to live up to his billing in a consistent basis. The Frenchman, who was courted by Premier League sides in the summer of 2013 when he made a move to Lille from Bastia, has played 34 times this season for the French side, scoring just the five goals.

In recent weeks however he has struggled and was dropped for Marseille's game against Metz last night.

Newcastle have a good record when it comes to bringing in players from French football, so will be hopeful of pulling off a coup regarding Thauvin.

Although, they will need to stay in the Premier League first.
