Newcastle United will not win again this season, says Paul Merson

The Toon Army are in danger of slipping into the relegation zone.

Newcastle United take on Leicester City in today's early kick-off, a game which has seemingly become a relegation six-pointer.

A few weeks ago such an idea would have been ridiculous, but The Foxes are on their way up, while The Magpies have been shot down.

Leicester have won four of their last five games in the Premier League. Newcastle on the other hand have lost their last seven.

That now means a Leicester win today at the King Power Stadium will take the previously doomed club to within one point of Newcastle, who will no doubt be in a relegation battle.

One man who does fear for the Toon is Paul Merson. The former Middlesbrough and Arsenal player turned Sky pundit wrote in his column for Sky Sports yesterday:

"I'm quite surprised Leicester didn't rest some of their players for the visit of Chelsea, but I think they'll beat Newcastle.

"I just can't see where Newcastle are going to win another game. Everybody says they have enough points, but if Leicester can win four in a row from nowhere, anything can happen. If Leicester win, Newcastle will be sucked in. It could all change still."

Merson is certainly not the only one concerned about the future of Newcastle. Their form is worrying and under John Carver they look a team bereft of inspiration as well as ideas.

Luckily, with four games remaining, it looks as though they will probably have enough points on the board to end up surviving.

But big changes must be made in the summer if they are to stave off the drop next term.
