A former Arsenal player has had his say on Aston Villa's loan star.
The England international arrived at Villa Park on loan from Manchester United shortly after the start of the season, but he flattered to deceive in his early appearances, continuing the form that had seen him temporarily shipped out at Old Trafford.
However, the 25-year-old has looked a different prospect in recent times and he continued that form this weekend.
“Tom Cleverley has been a revelation since Tim Sherwood took over,” Keown said. “He always used to go sideways and was lacking in confidence but that was a great run and finish.”
The former Arsenal defender was talking about Cleverley’s 64th-minute strike that ultimately proved to be the winner against Everton.
The match ended 3-2 to the hosts, with Villa’s other goals coming through Christian Benteke and Romelu Lukaku and Phil Jagielka responding for the Toffees.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Cleverley, with United still his parent-club but Villa surely keen on extending his stay if at all possible.
After his latest performance, any desire on Villa's part is likely to have become even stronger.
