Cordoba were unable to resist the firepower of Barcelona at Nuevo Arcangel on Saturday, as the Andaluz side fell to a humiliating defeat which confirmed their relegation from La Liga.
Showing absolutely no sympathy whatsoever, Barcelona enjoyed countless chances before the home defence finally buckled, as Ivan Rakitic grabbed the opener in the 42nd minute.
Just before half-time, Luis Suarez added a second and given the Barcelona dominance, the result looked a foregone conclusion, as the players headed back down the tunnel for the interval.
The third of the game came within a minute of the restart. Barcelona netting their 100th goal of the season in La Liga. Who else but the maestro himself, Lionel Messi, heading in an impressive 39th league goal of the campaign. His 50th in all competitions.
Relentless, the Catalan side kept pushing for more. Luis Suarez scored his second in the 53rd minute, then central defender Gerard Pique added the fifth for his team in the 65th minute.
Into the final ten minutes and still hungry for goals, the sixth came for Barcelona in the 80th, Messi with his second of the game and 51st of the season.
When a penalty was awarded to Barcelona in the 85th minute, both Suarez and Messi graciously resisted the urge, allowing Neymar to fire in the seventh of the game.
However, before the final whistle and in the 88th minute, Suarez did get his hat-trick. His first trio of goals in a Barcelona shirt and their eighth of the encounter.
Utter humiliation for a woeful Cordoba, who head back to the Segunda after just one season in the top-flight, their relegation confirmed.
Meanwhile, Barcelona have underlined their status as La Liga leaders, with just three games of the campaign remaining. 87 points from 35 games, a remarkable 105 goals scored and just 19 conceded.
