Furious Derby fans react to play-off failure, urge McClaren to join Newcastle

Derby County failed to reach the play-offs and supporters weren't happy.

Newcastle-linked Derby County boss Steve McClaren will no doubt have plenty of supporters who still back him to keep charge at the iPro Stadium.

Many, though, seem to be losing faith in the former England boss. Derby's 3-0 loss to Reading saw the Rams produce a limp performance when they needed a strong one most. And McClaren's men missed out on a place in the play-offs as a result.

It wasn't just a result of that game, however, it was the result of months of Derby struggles. It's no coincidence, meanwhile, that it has coincided with heavy speculation that McClaren will take over at Newcastle United next season.

Fresh reports as recently as today from the Chronicle suggest the Rams boss will hold talks with Derby about his future amid Newcastle interest.

But so frustrated are some Derby fans with McClaren that they have reacted to their play-off failure on Twitter by essentially telling Newcastle he's all theirs if they want him. Injuries have certainly cost County in recent months but many supporters feel there is more to it. A lack of bottle, tactical mistakes - take your pick.

With Newcastle and Derby both losing 3-0 on the same day, is McClaren the perfect match for the Magpies? Or should Derby fight to keep him as he is a man with a long-term plan...?
