Ex-Arsenal man Thomas Vermaelen still waiting for Barcelona debut

The Belgium international has not been named in the 18-man matchday squad to face Cordoba this weekend.

Arsenal’s centre defence options are starting to look comprehensive following the January signing of Gabriel Paulista from Villarreal, with Thomas Vermaelen a forgotten figure in North London.

The Gunners sold the versatile Belgian defender to Barcelona in the summer but he is yet to make his competitive debut for the Catalan giants due to injury.

Despite the fact that Veramelen has been on the comeback trail and training with the Blaugrana’s first team of late, he will have to wait slightly longer to make his Camp Nou bow.

Luis Enrique has named an 18-man matchday squad for this weekend’s La Liga clash away to Cordoba, but the Belgian defender has once more been omitted.

Vermaelen suffered injury worries during his time at Arsenal, with Barcelona fans starting to scratch their heads in a bid to ascertain why the Spanish side spent so much money on the defender last summer.

Barca are still in the running for a momentous treble this season, but it does not look like Vermaelen will play much of a role in the club’s quest for silverware.
