Allardyce is under pressure at the Hammers, with a need for the side to end the season well to improve his chances of getting a new long term contract at the club.
However, Barton feels that the damage caused by West Ham’s poor form since the turn of the year will be lasting.
“I look at their (West Ham’s) form and it’s relegation form – Sam has always had this aura that he will walk into his next job, but I just don’t think he’s got that at the moment,” he said.
The main criticism which seems to have been aimed at Big Sam by supporters is that he doesn’t have the sophistication in terms of style to help the team move forward.
With the move to the Olympic Stadium visible on the horizon, West Ham need to try and find a route into Europe, which would allow them to make the absolute most of that new and exciting platform they have to look forward to.
The challenge for Allardyce is simply to find a way to win games of football with the current side at West Ham.
The Hammers can lament over their inability to defend leads and conceding late in games, but they need points on the board to ease doubts heading into the summer.
