Arsenal's Francis Coquelin and Hull City's Tom Huddlestone compared

Arsenal’s Francis Coquelin and Hull City’s Tom Huddlestone are set to face off on Saturday.

Hull City welcome Arsenal to the KC Stadium on Monday as they look to earn a positive result in their bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

The Tigers have, for the most part, been solid this season and head into the fixture coming off the back of a morale-boosting 1-0 win over Liverpool.

The Gunners, in contrast, currently boast the best Premier League record in 2015 and last weekend’s 0-0 draw at home to Chelsea extended their unbeaten league run to nine matches.

Frenchman Francis Coquelin has been one of the Gunners’ unsung heroes this year and if the visitors are aiming to continue their unbeaten run, his battle with former Spurs ace Tom Huddlestone could prove key.

Tom Huddlestone 1.67 1.56 2.7 4.7 7.78 38.04 0.63 27

As per the table provided by Opta Stats, the duo have provided the midfield metal and defensive protection for their respective teams this season, though one has outperformed the other.

Former Charlton Athletic loan star Coquelin has the upper hand pre-match, recording more tackles, interceptions, clearances, defensive duels and ball recoveries per Premier League encounter.

Huddlestone joined Steve Bruce’s side from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2013 as one of the Premier League’s most renowned passers, and his time at the KC Stadium has been no different.

The 27-year-old has wonderful vision and while Coquelin may dominate him in the defensive categories, Huddlestone averages more accurate passes and chances created via key passes per fixture.

The North Londoners can’t afford to allow the England star to get into his groove on Monday and they will be counting on Coquelin in order to win this key battle and take control of the midfield.
