Tottenham fans give their verdict on a potential Townsend-Schneiderlin swap deal

Tottenham Hotspur Seats

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been discussing a potential move for the Southampton midfielder.

Tottenham fans have been full of discussion lately with regards to their summer transfer window.

It's that time of the year again where, unfortunately for the north London side, the current season's bid to reach the top four is off the agenda and a summer trying to avoid the same outcome next term tops the billing. It's a familiar story.

One transfer story of heavy interest, meanwhile, has been the London Evening Standard's report of a proposed deal for Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.

Indeed, the choice for Spurs appears to be whether to offer either winger Andros Townsend or midfielder Benjamin Stambouli in part exchange for the Saints man.

It remains to be seen if Southampton would be interested in either (plus cash) - but it's what Tottenham are reportedly considering in terms of an offer.

So who should the north London side look to offload?

That's exactly what Spurs supporters have been discussing on the HITC Sport pages, with some going for Stambouli, some Townsend and some holding no hope at all of signing Southampton's Schneiderlin regardless. Here's a selection of the debate...

Whether Southampton would want a player they haven't seen play is another matter, and I don't think he would interest Koeman. I think Spurs are going to struggle to offload any of the flops they signed for a decent price, apart from Eriksen and Chadli the other 5 have been an absolute waste of money, major clear out needed and decent players need to come in, Schneiderlin, Mirallas and Alderweireld would be a good start.'

I say keep him. I like Townsend too, but accept that he doesnt poduce the goods often enough, so if Southampton insist on him being part of the deal to land Schiderlin then so be it. He will be a good signing for sure.Just a decent CH, Striker, winger and cover of r Eriksen to go then....'

George wrote: 'Absolutely!! Townsend could have been a special player, but obviously he has not bothered to improve on what he's got or to learn more!!'

Chaz wrote: 'Nah. IMO Townsend is a better option than Lamela and Tottenham have better MF options in Mason/Bentaleb and even Dembele or possible Schneiderlin'

Marcus Higgins wrote: 'Can't see Schneiderlin to Spurs happening now, it's too late. The time to strike was at the start of last summer. If he goes now it'll be to a CL club.'

Tony Borg wrote: 'At last someone agrees Townsend is c***, we can't even give him away.'

Mr. Greaves wrote: 'Townsend isn't crap, but probably doesn't have a"football" brain. What he is however is, potentially, a very very good winger whose manager insists on playing him on the wrong side.'
