Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has listed the players in the Bleacher Report that Manchester United need to sign in the summer transfer window.
According to Collymore, the Premier League giants need to recruit the following players in order to compete for the title next season.
- Either centre-back Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund) or Ron Vlaar (Aston Villa/free)
- Right-back Nathaniel Clyne (Southampton)
- Striker Christian Benteke (Aston Villa)
- Either central midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia of Monaco or Juventus youngster Paul Pogba
It seems that Collymore is essentially suggesting a major overhaul of the United squad in the summer.
The need for a top-quality centre-back has been highlighted throughout the season, and perhaps the addition of Hummels or Vlaar will help strengthen United’s defensive.
Vlaar is currently at Aston Villa, but he will become a free agent at the end of the season, which means that he will cost nothing in transfer fee.
Nathaniel Clyne is one of the best right-backs in the Premier League, and United do need someone in that area.
Belgium international striker Christian Benteke has returned to form over the last few weeks for Aston Villa, but his history of injuries could be a concern for the United bosses.
As for signing Paul Pogba from Juventus, that is very unlikely to happen, especially as United themselves let go of the France international in the summer of 2012.
The dynamic Geoffrey Kondogbia of Monaco played well in the Champions League this season, but he has not been at his best in Ligue 1, which could raise question over his consistency.
