The Everton manager has been delighted with the partnership of the two England internationals.
The Blues have endured a difficult campaign in which they struggled to balance the Premier League with a Europa League campaign, with their defence in particular looking weak.
However, the Toffees have returned strongly at the end of the season, winning five of their last six games, including last week’s 3-0 win over Manchester United. That run has seen them concede just two goals, with Stones and Jagielka impressing.
Now, manager Martinez has praised the blossoming partnership.
"You have one, who in my eyes is a captain, a leader, and someone who is probably enjoying the best football of his career and Phil Jagielka in a very interesting season where you need to lead the group.”
Statistics show that when the duo have started together at the heart of the Everton defence, the side have conceded just 14 goals in 17 appearances.
As far as the fans are concerned, that is down to the performances of Stones, who has come back from a nasty injury suffered against United to once again impress at the heart of the Blues defence.
The youngster looks set to have a bright future in the game, and Martinez has said it is a pleasure to watch his ongoing development in an Everton shirt.
“For John it is a joy to see him developing and growing as a footballer alongside Phil [Jagielka],” he added. “It’s a natural partnership but it has been really effective for us, looking at the back four we’ve started a real strong consistency in 2015 and that’s a big part of any team.”
