Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor will miss the rest of the season due to injury, according to The Scottish Sun.
It has been reported by the newspaper that the midfielder has suffered a suspected broken ankle and will not be available for the Bhoys’ final four matches of the 2014-15 Scottish Premiership campaign.
The Scottish Sun claims that McGregor suffered the injury during a “freak training accident”, as he “slipped when he was crossing the ball and he fell awkwardly on his ankle”.
While the injury will come as a major blow to the 21-year-old, it will not affect Celtic between now and the end of the season.
That’s mainly because the midfielder has struggled for playing time in recent months due to the signings of Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong in the January transfer window.
McGregor did make a positive start to the 2014-15 campaign under manager Ronny Deila, but his development has been stunted in the second half of the season.
Celtic are currently at the top of the Scottish Premiership table with 82 points from 34 matches, eight points clear of second-placed Aberdeen.
