The former Santiago Bernabeu hero has stated that the Argentine is the best player he has ever faced.
The Argentina international has scored an incredible 38 goals in La Liga this season and created 17 assists, with Luis Enrique’s men on top of the table.
The Barcelona talisman has even received praise from one of Real Madrid’s favourite sons for his incredible ability.
Raul, who starred from the Santiago Bernabeu outfit for 16 years, has stated that Messi is the best player he ever faced during his pomp.
“Messi is the best player I ever played against,” the 37-year-old told Sports Illustrated.
“I was lucky enough to play with Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo, Luis Figo, Cristiano Ronaldo... But Messi is different.
“Messi makes everything look so easy, so effortless – even the impossible. When you watch him play, it’s almost as though you are watching him in the street playing with his mates.”
The 27-year-old has seemingly refund his best form this year after being dropped for Barcelona’s first game of 2015 - a surprise 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad at Anoeta.
Messi has put forward a major claim for this year’s Ballon d’Or award already with some superlative form, with Barcelona seeming unstoppable as a result.
The Catalan powerhouses are still in line for a memorable treble, with the side topping La Liga, in the final of the Copa del Rey against Athletic Bilbao and taking on Bayern Munich in the last four of the Champions League.
