PSV Eindhoven sporting director Marcel Brands has had a busy day. Earlier he was updating the suitors on the matter of Memphis Depay, one of the most wanted footballers in Europe.
"There has been nothing.
"He remains an option. Here, he knows what he has. Gini is captain and important. One of our best players. We love him and are very happy with him."
It was reported earlier today that Newcastle United were indeed keen on the Dutch international. It was claimed by The Chronicle earlier today that Newcastle were keen on the 24-year-old, who played and scored at the World Cup last summer.
He can play across the midfield and would of course have Dutch company. Newcastle already have the likes of international team-mates Daryl Janmaat, Tim Krul and Siem De Jong in their ranks, as well as Vurnon Anita, and that would help Wijnaldum fit in, should he make a move.
He has been in great form this campaign, scoring 15 goals in 38 appearances from the midfield as he helped PSV Eindhoven to the Eredivisie title this season.
But despite their reported interest PSV seem to be fairly confident that nothing concrete has yet been lodged for the player.
