Paul Merson says Chelsea's boring tag is pathetic

Former Arsenal star says Chelsea's boring tag is pathetic.

Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has told SkySports that calling Chelsea boring is 'pathetic'.

Fans of his former club chanted 'boring, boring, Chelsea' at The Emirates last weekend, as the Blues held Arsenal to a 0-0 draw.

That draw was just what Chelsea needed to protect their substantial lead in the Premier League, and prevent Arsenal a glimmer of hope in the title race.

Chelsea can now secure the trophy with a win against Crystal Palace this weekend, and Merson says it is fully deserved.

He said: "They are worthy winners and have been outstanding this season, using a fantastic core of a side and creating a winning mentality. That's Jose Mourinho, and all this 'boring' talk is just pathetic."

His views were not shared by ex-Arsenal midfield prospect Emmanuel Frimpong, who used his Twitter page after the game last weekend to describe Chelsea as boring, and 'killing his vibe'.

Despite the criticism, the figures do not stack up. Chelsea are the second highest goalscorers in the Premier League this season, netting more than Arsenal, and less only than Manchester City.

Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma had told The Sun this week that he viewed Arsenal fans as simply 'jealous' of their success.
