Jamie Redknapp has suggested on Sky Sports that Newcastle United could survive the drop from the Premier League.
The former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has pointed at the Magpies’ final game of the season as a determining factor in their survival hopes.
Newcastle will take on West Ham United at St. James’ Park, and Redknapp seems to suggest that winning all three points in that encounter could prove to be enough for them to avoid relegation to the Championship.
“They are on 35 points,” the 41-year-old told Sky Sports. “Is that going to be enough? Their last home game of the season is West Ham at home and that, I think, is obviously going to be a good game for them.”
Newcastle have a couple of winnable matches - on paper, at least - in the final month of the season.
Picking up all three points against Leicester City away from home at the King Power Stadium and winning against Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road are very much possible for John Carver’s side - again, on paper.
However, given the form that Newcastle are in, one should not be surprise if they lose at Leicester.
The Magpies have lost their last seven Premier League matches and are only five points above the bottom three.
