Tottenham defender Ben Davies won't feature again this season.
Tottenham Hotspur confirmed on their official Twitter account on Wednesday night that left back Ben Davies won't play again this season.
The Welsh left back joined from Swansea City last summer, but has largely played as a backup to first choice left back Danny Rose.
Still only 22, Davies is still tipped to have a bright future ahead of him, but won't play again this season after suffering an injury against Southampton last weekend.
Davies was substituted in the 76th minute in the 2-2 draw against the Saints, having been stretched off the pitch after damaging his shoulder.
Now, Spurs have confirmed on their Twitter account that Davies will be ruled out for the rest of the season and underwent surgery on Wednesday as a result.
With Danny Rose also injured, Tottenham are left short at the back, and fans took to Twitter to discuss who could replace him against Manchester City this weekend, as well as pass on well wishes to the defender ahead of his rehabilitation.
Some fans want Jan Vertonghen to shift over to play at left back, whilst others are keen for manager Mauricio Pochettino to give right back DeAndre Yedlin a chance on the left hand side.
Here are some of the reactions from Spurs fans after the news that Davies will miss the rest of the season with his shoulder injury.
So Yedlin-Dier-Fazio-Jan back line for Citeh. Or Vlad and not Yedlin. That should be fun.— Bradley Austin (@baustin80) April 29, 2015
