Tottenham Hotspur are expected to bring in a number of players in the summer transfer window.
Mitchell was appointed head of recruitment at Tottenham midway through this campaign and Pochettino believes that having him at White Hart Lane will help him bring in quality players.
Mitchell teamed up with Pochettino at Southampton and the Argentine boss is happy to be working alongside him again at White Hart Lane.
"Maybe it is an advantage [to work with Paul, who he previously worked alongside at Southampton] because he knows me. He knows which profile of the players that I need to develop my philosophy. That is an advantage," he said
"Ronald Koeman, when he arrived to Southampton, he brings his players [he knew from Dutch football when managing Feyenoord]. I think all managers want to bring their own players because it is a normal situation in all clubs and all managers want that.
"Now, after everything that has happened this season, we need to take the right decision to improve, maybe, in different positions."
Tottenham have struggled to bring in the quality required over recent transfer windows, so they will be hoping that Mitchell can have better success of identifying players than his predecessors.
Pochettino has relied on the youngsters in his squad to form the core of his team this season, but he realises that a sprinkling of quality is needed if Spurs are to meet their aims.
The Lilywhites are determined to create a team capable of regularly qualifying for the Champions League, but they are some way short of the standard required at the moment.
It means that this summer will be crucial to Tottenham's chances and followers of the North London club will be hoping Pochettino is right in predicting that Mitchell will help them bring in players of a proven quality.
