The Barcelona attacker could well become the first player in the Spanish top flight to finish a season with 20 goals and assists.

Barcelona are in ominous form, with Luis Enrique’s men looking like the best team in Europe since the turn of the year.

The Camp Nou outfit have the chance to complete a memorable treble this season, with potential for glory in the Champions League, Copa del Rey and La Liga.

Their talisman Lionel Messi has put forward an early claim to win his Ballon d’Or crown back this year with superb performances for the Catalan outfit both in Spain and on the continent.

With the Argentine in superlative form, he has a chance to break a La Liga record.

Messi could well become the first player in the Spanish top flight to score 20 goals and provide 20 assists.

The Argentine has already netted an astounding 38 goals in the league this season, one behind perennial rival Cristiano Ronaldo, and has created 17 assists.

Messi has four more La Liga games to tally three more assists to achieve the feat, with clashes against Cordoba, Real Sociedad, Atletico Madrid and Deportivo La Coruna yet to play.

With Luis Suarez and Neymar in excellent form in front of goal, few would bet against the South American breaching the 20 mark.
