Could Henderson v Sandro midfield battle decide Liverpool's clash with QPR?

Anfield Pitch

The midfield battle between two key players could be key in deciding the outcome of this game.

Liverpool take on Queens Park Rangers this weekend at Anfield with both sides desperate for a win for very different reasons.

Brendan Rodgers' side are going through a difficult period and the Reds boss in particular is coming under increasing pressure after seeing his side put in a series of toothless performances that has seen his side knocked out of the FA Cup - leaving him without a trophy for his first three seasons in charge at the club - and their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League in tatters.

The situation for Chris Ramsay and QPR is a little more critical though, with his men four points from safety. But given the form of Liverpool at the moment, he will be sensing that his side could take advantage of their recent poor run to give their chances of staying in the top flight a big boost.

One key battle to decide the outcome of this game could be in the middle of the park with Liverpool's Jordan Henderson and QPR's Sandro likely to be two men who are key to their side's chances of getting the upper hand and claiming all three points. So let's have a look at the statistics to find out who is likely to come out on top between the two:

PositionTeamPassing AccuracyTackles AccuracyDuel Won GAMEBig Chance CreatedGoalsAppearancesMins Played
Jordan Henderson MF Liverpool 82% 71% 4.39 7 6 33 2,895
Sandro MF QPR 73% 76% 5.56 0 1 16 1,129

It's clear that Sandro is a midfielder that sits deeper for QPR than Henderson does for Liverpool, while the Reds vice-captain is likely to be more of a threat in the final third of the field. One thing that also sticks out is how much more game time Henderson has had this season.

Henderson appears to be the more accomplished player with the ball at his feet while Sandro relishes the more physical aspect of the game with his tackling accuracy and duels won per game higher than that of his opposite number.
