Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen has confirmed to the club's official YouTube channel that he spoke with Jan Vertonghen before making the move to North London.
Eriksen, 23, has notched ten goals and two assists in the Premier League this season, enjoying a productive season under Mauricio Pochettino.
As we come to the end of Eriksen's second season at White Hart Lane, it's clear that he is the biggest success story of the crop of summer signings in 2013.
Eriksen has far outperformed Vlad Chiriches, Paulinho, Etienne Capoue, Nacer Chadli, Erik Lamela and Roberto Soldado, giving Spurs a playmaker to build around in the future.
The Denmark international cost Tottenham just £11.5m according to Sky Sports, as they beat off competition from a number of sides to land Eriksen, who had dazzled with Ajax in the Netherlands.
Eriksen played alongside Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen during his time in Amsterdam, and in an interview for the Spurs YouTube channel, he has admitted that he texted Vertonghen during the 2012/13 season, whilst admitting that the Belgian centre back told him how great the atmosphere was at the club.
"I spoke to Jan a few times through the season," said Eriksen. "I texted with him just to see how it went in the Premier League, and also because he was scoring so many goals, so I had many things to congratulate him about. We spoke about a few things, and I could see myself playing here, then when the chance came, luckily I picked up the phone and I went here."
"The whole atmosphere," he added when asked what attracted him about Spurs. "From what Jan told me, the whole atmosphere from the club, to the players, to the fans, to the stadium and also the history of the club is impressive."
After an impressive season, Eriksen will be hoping to continue his exploits into next season - and Tottenham supporters will be praying that he stays at the club for some years yet having seen Eriksen become a firm fan favourite.
