Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brad Friedel has explained on BT Sport why Mauricio Pochettino is the right manager to take the club forward.
Pochettino was appointed the Tottenham boss in the summer after he left the managerial position at Premier League rivals Southampton.
The Argentine’s primary objective this season was to ensure a top-four finish in the Premier League for Spurs, but it looks as if the North London outfit will fail to do so.
However, Friedel, who is out of contract at Tottenham in the summer, believes that Pochettino is the perfect fit for the club.
“Mauricio likes his players to play a high tempo, he likes his players to be very fit,” the American told BT Sport.
“He wants to win the ball as high up the pitch as he can, he wants to get in people’s faces,” added Friedel.
“He wanted to play exciting football, the Tottenham fans want to see exciting football. It should be a perfect fit for a long time at White Hart Lane.”
Tottenham have indeed played a high-pressing game this season, and when in full swing, they have been wonderful to watch.
While that strategy may not have been enough to see Spurs break into the top four, it has certainly excited the fans and has given them a glimpse of what could happen in the future.
Spurs have a history of sacking managers whenever they fail to finish in the top four, but they need to persevere with Pochettino for one more season at least.
