Report: Bayern Munich want Manchester United target Ilkay Gundogan

Ilkay Gundogan warming up for Germany

The German international helped Borussia Dortmund defeat Bayern Munich last night, now they want him.

Last week it was reported by Sky Sports that Manchester United had moved very close to completing a move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

They reported that Manchester United were on the brink of agreeing a £21.5 million deal for the German international, beating the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City to his signing.

Of course it is not the first time United have been linked with the player. Previous reports of imminent deals however have often proven not to be true, but this seems like the most credible yet.

So is Gundogan on his way to United?

If he is, it looks as though United will need to fight off some strong competition.

After last night's German Cup semi-final, in which Ilkay Gundogan scored a penalty against Bayern Munich, he has been linked with the team his Borussia Dortmund side defeated yesterday.

It is reported by the Daily Mail that Bayern will be moving for the player this summer.

Gundogan only returned to action after a year out in October with a trapped nerve in his back which seemed to threaten his career.

Time will tell where he decides to end up this summer.
