Southampton's long-injured player is finally back in first-team training.
Southampton’s official Twitter account has posted a picture the club’s fans will have been waiting a very long time to see – Jay Rodriguez lacing his boots in preparation for first-team training.
The photograph is accompanied by a message: “Welcome Back Jay.”
It is a welcome sight for Southampton fans, with the 25-year-old missing the entire season to date with a serious knee injury he suffered last April.
In his absence, Southampton have enjoyed a wonderful campaign, but one wonders if they could have done even better with the England international fit and available.
Rodriguez played 39 matches last season, scoring 17 goals and earning an international call-up as a result.
This season he will simply be hoping to get a few minutes on the pitch, and with a full summer behind him, he could return for the new campaign ready to make up for lost time.
With Graziano Pelle struggling for goals for much of the campaign, that will be great news for Southampton manager Ronald Koeman and the fans alike.
