Former Gunner Ray Parlour has explained two certainties related to Liverpool at the moment.
Former Arsenal player Ray Parlour suggested certainty over two things at Liverpool on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show for talkSPORT.
Liverpool did not play anywhere near as well as they can do last night, as they lost 1-0 to Hull City in the Premier League.
Parlour looked back to last season as he assessed the situation, while also offering support to the club’s manager Brendan Rodgers.
“I think there’s no doubt that they have underperformed compared to last season – I think Brendan Rodgers will be in charge next season, no doubt,” said the ex-Gunner.
Liverpool were exceptional last year and came very close to winning the Premier League title, but for a blip at the back end of the season.
Circumstances have been completely different this season so it’s difficult to directly compare the two campaigns.
As for Rodgers being the best man for the job, there would have been little doubt over that statement this time last year.
However, he spent the cash generated by the sale of Luis Suarez in questionable fashion and the side have really struggled to adapt to the challenge of maintaining a top four push.
Rodgers will have his work cut out after this season to trim the fat from the squad and to bring in the players who are going to make a real difference to the team.
Rodgers is the man who will carry the can for this season and if he’s shown a little bit of faith, he needs to pay that back because he will be under pressure this August.
