Manchester United round-up: Potential De Gea twist; £24m man scores twice

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has long been linked with a potential move to Real Madrid, with the Daily Mail among those claiming the Spaniard could be on his way to the Bernabeu in due course.

But newspaper Marca has a story this morning that could shake things up considerably. They have followed up on reports from Radio station Cadena Ser that Real are set to be handed a summer transfer ban similar to the one previously given to La Liga rivals Barcelona.

If true, that would see any stories linking De Gea with Real become irrelevant, at least in the short term.

The ‘keeper’s current contract at Old Trafford expires in the summer of 2016, and his form this season is such that United will surely want to tie him to a new long-term contract as soon as possible.

In other news, United striker Robin van Persie rediscovered his goal-scoring form as he scored twice for the club’s under-21s on Tuesday evening.

The Netherlands international is continuing his recovery from injury and it will have come as a boost to both him and his manager Louis van Gaal when he netted a brace against Fulham in a 4-1 victory.
