Gallery: Liverpool's season hits new low as Dawson's header lifts Hull City

Hull City KC Stadium

Michael Dawson's header handed Hull City victory over Liverpool on Tuesday.

It was another miserable night for Liverpool at the KC Stadium last night, but a huge result for Hull City as back-to-back wins moved them five points clear of the relegation zone with just four games remaining - and it was a much-needed success ahead of a tricky run-in.

A Michael Dawson header settled the contest just before half-time, as Liverpool posed very little threat throughout the game to draw another blank in front of goal, with Mario Balotelli failing to shine again when given an opportunity to impress.

Any hopes Liverpool had of securing Champions League football appear to be dead in the water, but some Reds fans will be pleased with one aspect of last night's game, and that will be a half-empty away end following their protest against the ticket price set for last night's game.

The result relieves some of the pressure on Steve Bruce, but piles more on Brendan Rodgers who is under the cosh following another season without a trophy and failing to build on last season's second-placed finish.

It will be interesting to see if the Reds can bounce back between now and the end of the season, and whether Hull can maintain the momentum they have built up over the past couple of games to carry them past the finishing post.
