Why Sunderland have to keep hold of Lee Cattermole this summer

Sunderland are reportedly expecting to receive offers for Lee Cattermole in the summer transfer window.

With reports in the Sunderland Echo suggesting that Lee Cattermole is set to attract a lot of interest this summer, the Black Cats must ensure that they fend off all bids from potential suitors.

Cattermole's form over recent seasons is sure to have attracted attention, but the North East outfit need to make sure he remains at the Stadium of Light next season - regardless of how much they are offered for him.

Cattermole should be made central to what Sunderland are trying to achieve, as they look to finally push the club on to new heights.

The central midfielder has the heart, desire and ability to be a player Sunderland build around and the other activity that is expected to take place around the Stadium of Light this summer means that he has to stay.

Sunderland are predicted to be busy in the upcoming transfer window. The Black Cats lack quality and have an ageing squad in dire need of renovations.

It leaves a number of players with uncertain futures, but Cattermole should not be put into that category.

The combative midfielder is still only 27, he is steadily improving and, most crucially, he looks capable of representing a team in a higher position than Sunderland at the moment.

It means that if a new contract needs to be offered to Cattermole to convince him to stay, he should be offered it, as the Wearsiders need to build their success around his talents for the years to come.
