Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier has told Sky Sports that Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez has a bright future.
The former England international made the comments during the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Saturday afternoon before the Magpies’ Premier League clash against Swansea City at St. James’ Park.
“I like his game,” said Le Tissier. “He is a clever footballer and he has good movement. I think that in a couple of years’ time, he will be a very, very good footballer.”
Perez has been one of the few bright sparks in what is turning out to be a hugely disappointing season for Newcastle.
Signed from Tenerife in the summer of 2014, the 21-year-old has looked bright and lively whenever he has been called into action.
The Spaniard started the Premier League game against Swansea on Saturday and scored the opening goal of the encounter in the 20th minute.
Perez is far from the finished article, but his touch and movement are signs that he is a player who can become truly brilliant in the coming years.
Of course, much will depend on where Newcastle as a club are. At the moment, the Magpies are struggling for survival in the Premier League, and that does not bode well for the future of a talented player like Perez.
