Arsenal have pushed on this season after finally ending their nine-year trophy drought with FA Cup success in May 2014.
The Gunners have all-but secured a top-four finish with ease but their squad still requires a few improvements in key areas of the pitch. Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry was critical of the current crop following the stalemate with runaway leaders Chelsea at the weekend.
Henry singled out four key areas that they need to strengthen in order to become title contenders next season. The major talking point came when he criticised Olivier Giroud, stating that his fellow countryman could not lead Arsenal to the title, per the Daily Mail.
Many think Giroud is a limited striker who bullies lesser opponents but struggles in the big matches, such as the Chelsea game on Sunday.
The Frenchman lacks that killer instinct or a stand-out attribute to make him a world class striker. Sergio Aguero possesses a lightning turn of pace whilst Luis Suarez has the ability to beat three or four men at once. Giroud is limited in that sense.
It all means that Arsene Wenger must upgrade his strike-force to make Arsenal regular title contenders. Their midfield talent is outstanding but they do lack something in the final third in the big games.
|Team||Goals||Total Scoring Att||Ontarget Scoring Att||Total Att Assist||Total Contest||Duel Won||Aerial Won||Big Chance Created||Appearances||Mins Played|
|Christian Benteke||Aston Villa||10||70||25||29||44||211||164||3||25||2,020|
The Belgian has been in inspired form since Tim Sherwood moved to Villa Park and has shown that he has the ability to lead the line in any attack in the country.
It will be a struggle for Villa to hold onto Benteke, who has scored eight goals in his last seven Premier League games and has shown that with the right service, he can score for fun.
This is why Arsenal should be seriously considering Benteke this summer. He is an upgrade on Giroud with the potential to improve even further.
Although the Frenchman has more goals (14) than Benteke (10) in the league, Paul Lambert’s negativity restricted the latter. His all-round game trumps that of Giroud and if you take into account the much poorer service he gets at Villa, Benteke has the potential to be incredible at the Emirates.
Benteke has won more of his aerial duels, completes more dribbles and creates more chances than Giroud this season, despite playing for a relegation-threatened team.
