Rival Schools United by Fate is one of the all time best Beat 'em Up games and has earned legendary status over the years for it's fast paced and frankly chaotic style. Now it seems that after fifteen years Capcom Director Hideaki Itsuno wants to bring the game back.
Speaking at NicoNico Chokaigi 2015 in Tokyo he stated that he'd "like to make a new fighting game,". And when asked specifically bout Rival Schools by a fan he responded "I've already thought of a new story."
Fans of the original game and it's sequels Nekketsu Seisyun Nikki 2 and Project Justice will no doubt be excited by this, albeit vague, announcement. Many of us will remember getting back from pubs and clubs in the late 90's/ early 00's, turning on the Playstation and battling until our fingers bled or the sun rising forced us to bed. Rival Schools really was THE Beat Em Up for the clubbing generation so lets hope a new version will be equally as addictive.
Not that the story is ever hugely important in a Beat Em Up, something that developers still seem to forget, but for those that may not know, Rival Schools told the story of Students from local schools in the city of Aoharu City. The Students set out to discover the source of several kidnappings and attacks on fellow students and teachers, eventually finding that the Elite School, Justice High, is responsible for the attacks. The Students must then battle the Elite School to end the attacks and restore peace to the city.
We certainly look forward to further developments on this one, lets just hope this project sees the light of day.
