Rio Ferdinand selects Team of the Season, Picks Arsenal stars ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool attackers

Rio Ferdinand also picked three Southampton defenders in his back four.

QPR defender Rio Ferdinand has revealed his Premier League choice for Team of the Season, and made a number of changes to the consensus selection.

The former England captain picked Portuguese defender Jose Fonte, making him one of three Southampton stars to make up his back four. He also selected right-back Nathaniel Clyne, with Ryan Bertrand the only Saints defender to make the actual team, as reported upon by The BBC.

Ferdinand kept Tottenham striker Harry Kane up front, but picked Alexis Sanchez of Arsenal above Chelsea's Diego Costa. Both players have contributed 22 goals each towards their team's seasons in the Premier League so far in 2014/15.

Diego Costa Chelsea 3 19

Another of Ferdinand's choices saw Liverpool attacker Coutinho left out, and another Arsenal player selected, Santi Cazorla. The choice to select the Spaniard is backed up by the output of the Gunners' star.

Philippe Coutinho Liverpool 4 4

Ferdinand did not select any outfield players from former club Manchester United who he left last summer, instead just choosing goalkeeper David de Gea, who made the official team.

The PFA Team of the Season included, De Gea, Bertrand, Terry, Cahill, Ivanovic, Matic, Coutinho, Sanchez, Hazard, Kane, and Costa.
