Newcastle United-owned attacking midfielder Haris Vuckic is currently on loan at Scottish Championship outfit Rangers.

Peter Reid has revealed to The Daily Record that he tried to sign Haris Vuckic on loan from Newcastle United when he was in charge of Plymouth Argyle.

Former Sunderland and Leeds United boss Reid was the Argyle manager from June 2010 to September 2011.

“I tried to sign Haris but they wouldn’t let him leave,” the 58-year-old told The Daily Record. “He’s a good player and I’m delighted he is doing well for Rangers and Stuart.”

Vuckic joined Premier League outfit Newcastle from Slovenian club NK Domzale in January 2009, but he has struggled to break into the first team.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder moved to Scottish giants Rangers in the January transfer window on loan from the Magpies until the end of the season.

The Slovenia international appears to have rejuvenated himself at Ibrox and is playing a key role in the Gers’ push for promotion from the Scottish Championship to the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers are currently third in the Championship table with 66 points from 35 matches, just a point behind Hibernian, who are second in the standings at the moment.

Stuart McCall’s side, who are guaranteed a place in the playoffs, will take on Heart of Midlothian away from home at the Tynecastle Stadium in Edinburgh on Saturday.
