Report: Marseille already targeting replacement for Spurs-linked Florian Thauvin

White Hart Lane

Romain Hamouma is reportedly being lined up to replace Florian Thauvin at Marseille next season.

On the back of the news that Florian Thauvin is a reported target for Tottenham Hotspur this summer, per the Daily Mail, Olympique de Marseille are already lining up a replacement for next season. According to information from France Football, Marcelo Bielsa’s team are interested in Saint-Etienne’s Romain Hamouma.

Moves are apparently being made behind-the-scenes at the Stade Velodrome, and although there may be other targets, Hamouma is one that they have been keeping an eye on this season.

He may have only scored three goals this season, but it is his seven assists and all-round energy and drive that will have attracted president Vincent Labrune.

Last season, Hamouma had a wonderful first half of the campaign, before Christmas he had scored six times, but he failed to find that same form after the winter break.

Back to this campaign and although he struggled at the start, Hamouma has really come on again in the second half of the season. He is just behind Max Gradel is being the most important player in Saint-Etienne’s attack.

Quite often, Hamouma is the player behind the assist, his runs and creativity make space for others and on a regular basis he is the player that sparks Les Verts productivity.

He may not be as young as Thauvin, there is also no sell-on value, but he would give Marseille an attacking boost and replace the energy that André Ayew currently brings. It would be a sad loss for Saint-Etienne, but a huge gain for Marseille.

Thauvin’s attitude is still under the microscope, and Hamouma could not be any more of a contrast. The current Marseille winger still has a lot to prove, but Hamouma will bring an instant boost to all aspects of Les Phoceens.
