Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith explained on Sky Sports that he feels Alexis Sanchez is the signing who has really lifted his old club this season.
The Gunners spent big to snap up the Chilean on a long term deal last summer and he’s wasted no time getting down to business, having a big impact on the shape of Arsene Wenger’s team.
“You look at his stats of 14 goals and eight assists, I think Alexis Sanchez has really lifted everyone in the squad at Arsenal with his work rate and effort,” said Smith.
Sanchez has been used in a variety of different roles by Arsene Wenger, even used as a makeshift centre forward earlier this season, but the one constant, which has run alongside the changes is the effort he puts into big games.
He would have liked to have got closer to 20 goals by this stage of the season, but the differing roles and adjusting to life in the Premier League have been challenges he’s had to deal with.
Sanchez could still end the season successfully with Arsenal, with the FA Cup final just around the corner as well as having automatic qualification into the Champions League to fight for.
Sanchez isn’t a bad blueprint for Wenger to follow with any player he brings in this summer, but the Chilean will be challenged next season.
Premier League defenders will know all about him and will have experience of playing against him and he needs to try and find ways to stay effective in all competitions.
