Florian Thauvin was pulled off at half-time as Marseille were beaten 5-3 by Lorient on Friday night.
One name that keeps being linked with Tottenham Hotspur is that of Florian Thauvin. The French winger has again been linked with a move to White Hart Lane, this time by the Mirror on Monday, but it comes after a poor weekend for the former Bastia man.
Tottenham Hotspur came from behind at Southampton to nick an important point on Saturday lunchtime. Mauricio Pochettino’s team are still in with a slim hope of Champions League football and that would shape their summer business.
Not only was Thauvin part of the Marseille side that was beaten 5-3 by Lorient on Friday night, but the former France Under-21 international was brought off at half-time by Marcelo Bielsa after what can only be described as an abject performance.
Too often the winger gave the ball away, and definitely wasn’t involved as much as Bielsa would have liked. According to WhoScored, Thauvin finished with a pass accuracy of 66% and managed just one shot on target.
That shot was his defining moment in the game. With the scores level, Thauvin raced through on goal down the left, he had options around him, but decided to take on the shot, it was weak and straight at Benjamin Lecomte, and just not good enough for a player with the quality he has shown.
Still just 22 years old, Thauvin still has time to develop, but with only five goals in 33 games this season, there are now more question marks than ever over his ability.
If Spurs are looking for a player that will give them the edge to push into the top four, with his attitude problems and lack of form, Thauvin should be one to avoid at this stage of his career.
