A current Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has been speaking about one who has since moved on.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side still have four games left this season, as they bid to qualify for the Europa League at the expense of the likes of Southampton and Liverpool.
They will then turn their attentions to the next campaign, with Tottenham likely to strengthen in a number of key areas, most notably up front, on the wing and in central defence.
The summer tour will allow any new arrivals to settle in early, while also giving the current players the chance to impress their manager ahead of a season when they will no doubt be hoping to challenge for a top-four finish and some silverware.
Speaking to the Australian website, Mason was asked specifically about a player who has already represented the Socceroos 10 times and was previously on the books at White Hart Lane – Massimo Luongo.
Speaking about Luongo, Masson said, “He’s a great player and friend, and back when we were at Spurs together you could see he had a lot to offer and had so many facets to his game.
“I definitely think he can play at a higher level. It’s probably only a matter of time now.”
Luongo has featured 97 times for Swindon to date and while Tottenham may be able to buy him back for the fee they initially sold him for, he may have to look elsewhere given the competition for places in North London and the possibility that Spurs will strengthen in that specific area this summer with more household names.
