The French forward scored his 26th goal of the season on Sunday as Lyon beat Stade de Reims 4-2, helping them keep pace with Paris Saint-Germain at the top of the table.
Reports from Italian site Calciomercato suggest that Arsenal “are in” for the 23-year-old, and it is clear to see from his finish on Sunday that he would be the perfect fit for the London club.
After scoring 21 goals in 22 games for Les Gones, Lacazette picked up a thigh injury that saw him miss three of Lyon’s crucial games in February. It took until his third game back to rekindle that goal-scoring touch, but in his run of four in seven games, two of them were from the penalty spot.
On Sunday he banished any thoughts of a drop in form, ghosting in at the back post to meet Clinton N’Jie’s wonderful right-foot cross with a superb left-foot volley after just six minutes. It may not have been Lacazette’s best performance, but he was clinical when it mattered most.
Lyon are reportedly confident that they can hold onto Lacazette beyond the summer. They want the France international to be part of the team that opens their new 50,000-seater Stade de Lumières in January and if he can go beyond Jean-Pierre Papin and Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s 30-goal mark, helping Lyon into the Champions League, that may be enough to convince him to stay.
